These terms apply to all research services provided by Ross Kendall trading as British Ancestry. By commissioning research or purchasing a “Jumpstart” package, you agree to these terms.
1. The Service
I provide professional genealogical research. While I use my expertise to navigate historical records, I cannot guarantee that any specific ancestor or record will be found.
2. The Family History Jumpstart Package
- What is included: A fixed-fee service consisting of: 5 hours of professional research, a PDF summary report, and a formatted pedigree family tree diagram.
- Fixed Price: The standard fee for the Jumpstart is £120. Where a limited-time special offer (e.g., £90) is promoted, this lower rate applies to bookings made strictly within the offer period.
- Scope: This fee is a total for the package defined above. Any research requested beyond these 5 hours will be quoted separately as a “Bespoke Research” project.
3. Payment
- Payment Terms: For the Jumpstart package, payment is required in full upfront. For bespoke research, a 50% deposit may be required.
- Methods: Payment is accepted via Bank Transfer or PayPal.
- Expenses: Costs for official certificates (e.g., GRO birth certificates) are not included in the fixed price and will be charged at cost with your prior approval.
4. Cancellation and Refunds (Your “Cooling-Off” Rights)
- 14-Day Window: Under UK law, you have 14 days to change your mind and request a full refund, provided I have not started work.
- Early Start: If you ask me to start your research immediately (within the 14 days), you acknowledge that your right to a full refund is waived. If you cancel after work has begun, you will be charged a proportionate amount for the work already completed.
- Digital Content: Once the final Jumpstart report has been delivered to you digitally, the service is considered “fully performed” and is no longer refundable.
5. Your Responsibilities
To avoid “duplicate research,” you agree to provide all known information about the family line at the start. I am not responsible for time spent finding information you already possessed but did not disclose.
6. Professional Standards & Limitations
- Accuracy: I strive for 100% accuracy based on available evidence. However, I am not liable for errors in historical records themselves.
- Liability: My liability is limited to the total amount paid for the specific service in question.
7. Intellectual Property
You own the copy of the report I provide for your personal use. I retain the copyright to the professional layout, analysis, and synthesized text within my reports. You may share findings with family, but the report may not be published or sold commercially without my permission.
